The Buzz

Right now I am really grateful for three things. The first is an amazing dinner at El Alquemist near our Albergue. We had the best salad by far since we've been in Spain. We could see all the vegetables in a case when we ordered. A darling couple runs the cafe, the husband with a great sense of humor and the wife a lovely lady and great chef. When Julia asked for the menu, she pointed to herself and said that she was the menu, just tell her what we wanted to eat. Julia pointed to the eggplant and asked for veggies and she made an amazing pasta with the local veggies. The husband was trying to communicate with a Japanese man who didn't speak any Spanish. He wanted some beef steak but they owner said no, they only had ( then he made a pig face and noise and then he clucked and flapped his arms like a chicken). We all had a good laugh!

As we started to eat our salad, 2 girls, Emmy and Cassie, from Ohio started talking with us from a nearby table. After a minute they asked if they could join us. I'm sure the whole town could hear us laughing the entire meal. I love making good Camino friends!

Lastly, I'm glad that my hike today did not include the terrible bee attack that they endured. They heard some Spanish girls yelling and saw a Japanese guy throw down his pack before they realized that they had walked into a swarm of bees. Cassie freaked out because they were not only on her arms but also in her hair. She threw her poles and pack and screamed like a crazy person while Emmy tried to kill them in her hair. They both ended up with 4 bites and Cassie still had one buzzing in her hair 5 miles later. That might have been a Camino deal breaker for me!

  1. Amy! I think you are soon to be passed by two folks, Sue and Jerry, who wrote a blog called "twomoremiles" and hiked the PCT last year. If you do see them, what a small world! They are in Santa Domingo logging ~29km/day :).

  2. That food looks SO delicious! What fun to just tell the woman what you want and have it served to you. LUV the pig and chicken story. We are experiencing this whole journey through your eyes (and great pics). Thank you, Amy!
