Until yesterday, the food we had eaten was fine, but nothing to write home about. The 2 pilgrim meals at the Albergues have been better than I had expected, but not too exciting. Last night we had pintxos (tapas) at an outdoor bar. We were hungry around 5 for something to eat but the kitchen was closed until 7. I decided to have a delicious minty mojito while I waited and Julia had a Baileys while we munched on the only offering available from the kitchen at the moment, a moist piece of carrot cake. A fellow pilgrim from Seattle joined our table with a glass of wine. Around 7 we ordered some local chorizo, potatoes with a spicy red sauce and creme fraiche and brushetta with boucheron goat cheese and sundried tomatoes. Every bite was fabulous! Today for a late lunch, I had a wonderful spinach salad with percorino cheese and bacon, washed down by a cold San Miguel beer on tap. This was followed by an incredible 30 minute foot and leg massage by a pilgrim who was working his way on the Camino by doing foot massages for a donation. A perfect way to finish off my afternoon!
Here we sit, looking at that fabulous, beautiful food while we munch on grilled cheese and chips. You are always in our prayers for safety and health, but we just stopped praying for your good nutrition! (Just kidding!)
