So, there is a guide book which we are using to help us figure out where to stay and what the route will be like for any given section. Today was supposed to be a lovely stroll through gentle rolling hills and vineyards and medieval towns. That was true except for the gentle rolling hills part. Almost the entire route was fairly steep uphill or downhill while walking on dangerously treacherous rocks. It was also the hottest day by far without much shade. The 18km felt much longer than that. Although we were drinking a lot of water, we didn't need to go to the toilet from 10am until we arrrived at the albergue at 4. Not that there were any toilets available, except in nature. We drank a lot of water after we checked in and decided to do a shorter day tomorrow. There were a lot less pilgrims on the camino near us today. I think that between staying at a smaller town and starting late we avoided the crowds.

ReplyDeleteThose ARE the gentle/rolling....it's the cobble that makes them so tough! Your writing makes me seriously homesick for the Camino!!!
