Ordinary People

It is quite an assorted bunch of people who have chosen to walk the Camino. The pilgrims come from all over the world and are every shape, size, age and fitness level. The last thing they resemble are a bunch of athletes. Most of the pilgrims come stumbling into the towns, many with knee braces, bandages, walking sticks and faces streaked with sweat and full of fatigue. If we are early enough to get a bed or have made reservations when possible, we are relieved. A shower helps to transform almost everyone, at least we smell better. A beer or wine or sangria also work wonders. Lots of laughter and tales from the day are shared as we make new friends with our albergue mates. Currently we are traveling with a slower walking group made up of some very sweet and funny people.

  1. Just what I hoped for you, dear friend! Meeting lots of new people, hearing their stories, and having the time to listen.
