Grape Harvest

We have been walking for days through stunning vineyards. The vines have been loaded with clusters of mostly red grapes. We wondered when the harvesting would begin because the fruit looked really ripe. At one point we noticed that the grapes were a green variety instead of the red. Moments later, a woman walked over next to us and started harvesting the grapes. We watched for a minute then a man walked over. We hoped we weren't going to be scolded for watching. Instead, he reached into the pail of grapes and handed each of us a huge bunch. They also were happy to pose for a photo. Such generosity! But now we had to carry our hiking poles in one hand while sweet grapes juice dripped down the other. After thanking them we continued down the road until we were out of sight and I could pull a plastic bag out of my pack to put them in. Pretty soon we came to a stand where other pilgrims were taking a break, including our friend Max. He was happy to see us and was surprised that he hadn't seen us on the road earlier. At one point there were 2 ways to go and we had taken different ones. We shared the grapes with fellow pilgrims as we aired out our feet and changed our socks.

  1. Hi Amy!!! It's GRAPE to finally be on your blog! I read your first 2 weeks' entries today and love seeing your smiling face and reading about you enjoying God's beautiful world and people...and about you being in inappropriate places (a funeral procession.) That's SO AMY!!! :) Melissa
