On our way out of town we walked past some fun Camino graffiti which I had to stop and photograph. After our coffee break the countryside suddenly resembled Steinbeck's Northern California; rolling brown hills dotted with scrub oak trees and even some golden poppies.
Buen Camino
This blog will be about my thoughts, impressions and experiences along the Camino de Santiago in Spain and my travels following my time there. I am delighted and honored to have you journey along with me during this pilgrimage.

It was a dark and foggy morning...
Even though we didn't get on the road until 7:45 this morning, it was freezing cold. There was a biting wind which added to the chill factor. Eventually we hiked up around some hills which blocked the wind but put us in the fog. The visibility was quite limited and we could just make out the line of pilgrims walking ahead of us. This continued on for about 8 km through a couple of tiny towns without any cafes open for our morning coffee. Finally the sun broke through right before the little town of Espinol. A cafe was open and filled with happy pilgrims eager for their coffee and breakfast and toilet opportunity. We lingered for a longer than usual coffee break since we were so delighted to find a place open on a Sunday morning and we knew we only had another 4km to go on this shorter walking day.

Hmmm - someone must have brought some CA poppy seeds! They're native to here!
