He started in Holland and made it to Paris then stayed in a monastery near there for 6 months. He has a cart that he hauls behind him which weighs about 100 pounds. He travels without money and camps everywhere. Apparently he has traveled all over the world including the North Pole. His training was in the green berets in Holland. Everything he said seemed over the top but somehow believable.
A young man from Hungary sat next to him at our communal table at the cafe. Both of them had very impressive beards. The Hungarian had also started from his home and was traveling without money. Quite an experience. A lot more people are camping in France than in Spain where it was supposedly illegal most places.
The gal from Colorado helps lead people on pilgrimages here and in other countries around the world and has worked as a hospitallers (hostel volunteer) on the Camino. She had great stories to share about all of her experiences.
I can't wait to see who I will meet tomorrow!
Amy, your first day sounds so up beat and fun filled with quirky characters. It's interesting to learn of the differences between this French journey and the one in Spain. Thank you also for your wonderful pictures......your eyes capture the essence of the French countryside.
ReplyDeleteAaaaah, people watching/observing: one of my favorite pastimes. Goodonya' for sharing some of your experiences in that regard. Those are free for us all, if only we are paying attention, as you clearly are. Thanks!
