The town of Auvillar where we are staying tonight is designated one of the most picturesque villages in France. They seem to like titles like that. It definitely is quite picturesque with a lovely unique round pavilion which had formerly been a granary. The brick and stone and half timber buildings are lovely and date to the 16-18th C. Numerous art galleries and restaurants are located in town though most are closed because it is Monday.
The town dates back to the Gallic Roman era and has an interesting and illustrious history including being the home of Pope Clemente V in 1264 and Henri Navarre who became Henri IV of France.
We are staying in a beautiful old building in a lovely room with a nice terrace, kitchen and garden. No dinner available with the gite tonight but there should be plenty of options in town.
