Brown is the New Green

Mars de Vers to Cahors
18km w/o detour 22 or more with

It was chilly this morning when we set out. After watching the frisky donkeys near the gite, Patricia and Angela and I hit the trail with a handful of other pilgrims. Before too long we had spread out and walked solo for a good portion of the day, just catching up every now snd then. It was a nice contemplative walk and more rural and arid than I had expected. Angela said it reminded her of the bush in the outback in Australia.

Patricia and I took a wrong turn coming into town and had a nice scenic detour through the lovely city. It felt strange but nice to be in a city again after so much time in the countryside.

The Lot River that we have seen off and on for the past week flows through this medieval city. There are beautiful old and new bridges crossing the wide slow flowing river. The buildings and clouds we're beautifully reflected on the water.

We eventually found the gite with the aid of another pilgrim and a bus driver. Crossing the city we passed the university and loved seeing all the students out and about. The city has great energy amd a very interesting history going back to the 10th C.

Our room is nice and there is an alcove next to a window looking down on the garden. It would be a great place to sit and write a novel. The communal dinner was delicious once again. Vegetable soup (orange for a change), couscous with pork, salad, cheeses and gelato for dessert. Homemade verbena liquor for a digestif to settle everything as well as an herbal tea.
