A Walk in the Woods

Montbonnet to Monistrol d'Allier
13 km w/o detours 21 km our way

Refreshed after a good nights sleep, I left the gites with my new friend Kris from Colorado. The sky was exquisite, light blue with dramatic cotton clouds and a golden hue of morning light over the fields of corn and plowed hay. We seemed to stop every few minutes to declare how lovely it was and to try to capture it in photos. Of course none of them do justice to the glory of the morning. All of our senses were delighted by the fresh morning breeze, the smell of the hay and the tinkling of cow bells.

Our path today led through fields and forests, up and down hills (lots of steep downhill) and through the darling town of St Privat where we took the time to see the church and look out over the valley below. The weather could not have been more perfect and we were both brimming with good cheer.

And then we took the wrong route, a petit detour down a treacherous steep rutted path for quite awhile. The path abruptly ended with a lone cow staring at us. Miraculously I stayed in a good mood and even felt good as we slowly climbed our way back up to the Camino. The marker showing the way was toppled over and we assumed incorrectly that the path continued straight ahead instead of following a paved road for a hundred yards.

Lesson learned I hope. At least we had each other and our total km weren't too many today. Most of the rest of the way was knee jarring rocky and root filled downhill. But through beautiful forests and with incredible views. So now we are in a town by the river and tomorrow will begin with probably the steepest hike of this section of the Camino. Prayers are appreciated! I feel really good and don't have any blisters or other issues yey.
