20km
Unfortunately my posts yesterday wouldn't publish, so I will try to redo them later tonight. The walk today was mostly on straight paved roads through cornfields and town, not our prettiest day, but it still had its moments. We had a picnic near an old communal laundry basin which was a nice shady spot to eat. The rest of the way was through a suburb and the industrial outskirts of town until we arrived at the pretty river and into the old town.
Because it is Monday most everything is closed but there was a cafe open to get coffee and to sit for awhile. The cathedral here is amazing and fully restored and functioning. The French cathedrals often have painted walls and ceilings which make them rather colorful. Pope Frances visited here and his portrait is proudly displayed.
Somehow we made a mistake in our booking tonight and called a different gite than we thought we had. We had our packs sent to the Chapelle Ursulines where we thought we had booked but when we arrived the reservation was only for 2 for Amy from the USA. The owner said it was ok but she had to get more food. Awhile later a different Amy from the USA showed up. We actually had a reservation at a different place but we're already settled in here so we had to call and apologize to the other gite. I felt really bad but it was too late to change back. I hope she gets some drop in pilgrims. What are the chances of another Amy here in the same gite tonight? Crazy!
The Chapelle that we are staying in tonight was an old seminary and we are sleeping in the Ursula Chapelle. The beds are lined up in a way that made me think of the Madeline books. The main room/ dining room is in the old sanctuary. It feels like we are in a twilight zone episode today.
